Found money

The other day, I had a bit of a hangover, so, after lounging on the couch for a couple of hours, I decided to drag my sorry ass outta the house for a walk.
I wound up jumping on the Ossington bus, getting off at that station, and lo and behold, there's a brand new subway token on the ground! Nice!
It's the little things that can make or break your day.
Then, I took the Bloor train over to Yonge, got off, and headed south. It was fucking cold, but I didn't really mind, I leisurely strolled down the barren street, stopping for coffee, etc., to warm up.
Right near Gerrard, I saw something flying at me out of the corner of my eye. Instinctively, I ducked. What looked like a piece of garbage picked up by the wind was actually a $50. dollar bill!
Woo-Hoo!!
Two great finds in less than an hour……………..
When I was a young boy, I always used to find cash on the streets. My mother couldn't believe I found as much as I did -she used to think I was stealing it from somewhere. In fact, I remember her taking it away from me one time, because she was certain that it was ill-begotten.
My secret, which took even me a while to figure out, is that a lot of the time I walk, I've got my head down. (years ago, I did a series of photographs of sidewalk stamps -you know, the stamps that the construction workers put on sidewalks while the concrete is still wet, to date it. ……..O.k., maybe you don't know….)
Usually, if I'm just wandering, I'm thinking, or rather daydreaming -as the case may be. I'm less distracted looking down than I would be if I was paying attention to the street. I gotta admit, there's a reason most people don't stare down at the sidewalk. There's usually nothing to see other than dog shit, spit, and cigarette butts.
However, every once and a while, one stumbles across a 'windfall.'
Here's a little piece of advice that I use myself: If you ever find some cash on the sidewalk, grab it, but look around. you'd be surprised how often there's more dough right near by!
B.T.W, anytime you find cash, you're supposed to spoil yourself with it, or waste it. It's the law!
So, I took my new-found scratch right into a music store and bought a couple of new cds and a dvd. Then, I caught the subway back home, -for free!

Hey Joe that $50 buck is mine. I lost it in Parkdale and the wind must have blown it over to Gerrard st.

I'll share my windfall spot with you and your readers….. You know on the customer side of the bar, where everyone is standing, impatiently waiting, desperately hoping to make eye contact with the bartender to order their drink faster? I usually take that time to check the floor around the bar stools for a crumpled up bill that has popped out of some numb, drunken person's jeans pocket. I've scored a few free evenings!
